A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore
This book described badly: a grieving, single father finds Goth and becomes an unwilling cult icon.
This is my favorite Christopher Moore book. Christopher Moore is pretty reliable, but I think with this one his character writing stands out.
Relatable and emotionally honest journey of a new-minted single father coping with grief, raising a baby, and making ends meet, all while growing into the all-too-shabby mantel of becoming the new Grim Reaper.
I particularly love how a great deal of the important tension comes from running his shop.
It’s a lot of fun to watch a sympathetically relatable normal dude deal with four interesting life problems in a compelling way:
- raising a child
- grieving the loss of his wife
- running a small business!
- and accepting he’s the grim reaper
Good book. Would recommend.
